Cairn of peace memorial

The Cairn of Peace Memorial (Mohyla míru) was built to honor the victims of the Battle of Austerlitz (December 2, 1805) following the initiative of the catholic priest and teacher Alois Slovák, fulfilling his vision to transform the center of the former battlefield into a "place of light" and a memento of war. The Cairn of Peace is both a dominant landmark and the natural center of the Austerlitz Battlefield protected heritage zone.

In the museum building adjacent to the Memorial, visitors can see the permanent exhibition "The Battle of the Three Emperors 1805", which provides insight into the Battle of Austerlitz. In the museum pavilion, the exhibition titled "The Austerlitz Phenomenon" shows how the battle resonated in the minds of writers, musicians, and filmmakers, and introduces the tradition of battle reenactments. The permanent exhibitions are complemented by short-term displays installed in the museum extension.

Every year at the turn of November and December, a commemorative ceremony is held on the grounds to honor the fallen, serving as the highlight of the memorial events marking the anniversary of the battle. On national holidays and significant days, the Cairn of Peace is formally illuminated.

A souvenir shop is available to visitors in the entrance area, offering a wide selection of themed memorabilia. Visitors can also enjoy their time at the Cairn of Peace in a café with an adjacent outdoor terrace.
